There’s something magical about living in the coastal city, especially when you’re a student. The air is fresher, the days are sunnier and there’s always something new to discover just around the corner. This was my experience while pursuing my diploma at Rifkins College Mombasa, nestled in one of the most beautiful coastal city in Kenya. My time here has been more than just classes and coursework; it’s been about embracing a lifestyle that balances academics with the unique rhythm of coastal life.
From the moment I arrived at Rifkins College Mombasa, the ocean became my constant companion. The campus is just a short walk from Fort Jesus that overlooks the oceanand I quickly made it a habit to end my weeks with a walk along the shoreline. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of sand beneath your feet. I’d often head down to the beach with friends to simply relax and soak up the sun or swim. These moments were a perfect escape from the stresses of schoolwork and provided a refreshing break from the rigors of academic life. The beach became our go-to spot, a place, a place where we could unwind, share stories and make lasting memories.
Living in Mombasa meant being part of a vibrant and diverse community. There was always something happening in town, whether it was a local seafood festival, a farmers’ market, or a cultural event at the community center. The city’s laid-back vibe was infectious, and it wasn’t long before I found myself falling in love with its charm and warmth.
I quickly got involved in the community, volunteering at the beach clean-ups and participating in local environmental initiatives. These activities not only allowed me to give back but also helped me build connections with people who shared my passion for protecting our natural surroundings. The sense of community here was strong and I felt like I was part of something bigger than myself.
Rifkins College offered a rigourus curriculum, and there were plenty of hours spent in the E-library or working on group projects. The beauty of studying here was that it offered a perfect balance. When things got overwhelming, I could always find peace by the water, allowing me to recharge and refocus.
Living and studying in Rifkins College Mombasa also meant access to some of the freshest and most delicious food I’ve ever tasted. The city’s seafood was a highlight- freshly caught fish, succulent shrimp and the unique swahili dishes were always available. These culinary adventures were a delightful way to unwind and enjoy the local culture.
One of the most transformative aspects of living and studying in Rifkins College Mombasa was the deep connection I developed with nature. The ocean with its ever-changing moods, taught me about the power and beauty of the natural world. The sunsets over the water were breathtaking, painting the sky in hues of orange, pink and purple. These moments reminded me to pause, take a deep breath and appreciate the world around me.
I also became more aware of the importance of environmental conservation. The community’s dedication to preserving the coast inspired me to get involved in sustainability initiatives on campus from organizing recycling drives to advocating for eco-friendly practices. Living in such beautiful places instilled in me a sense of responsibility to protect it for future generations.
As I near the end of my time at Rifkins College, I realize ho much this college’s location has shaped my experience and who I’ve become. It has been a journey of growth, both academically and personally. I’ve learned to balance work and play, to push myself out of my comfort zone and to appreciate the simple joys of life by the sea.
Studying here has been an incredible adventure filled with unforgettable experiences, lasting friendships and countless moments of joy. It’s a place where learning extends beyond the classroom, where the ocean’s rhythm becomes a part of your own and where every day feels like a new opportunity to explore, grow and thrive.
I will always cherish my time here and I know that wherever life takes me next, the lessons I’ve learned and the memories I’ve made in this college found in \momn=basa will stay with me forever.
